Tone abnormality refers to an imbalance in muscle tone, where a child may have either increased stiffness (hypertonia) or reduced muscle tone (hypotonia). These differences can affect posture, movement, balance, feeding, coordination, and the achievement of developmental milestones. Tone abnormalities may be noticed in infancy or early childhood and can impact a child’s overall motor development.
At SYNAPSE Pediatric Neurodevelopment & Early Intervention Clinic, we focus on early identification and detailed assessment of muscle tone and motor patterns. Through structured developmental evaluations, we assess how tone differences affect a child’s functional abilities and daily activities.
Led by Dr. Amola Khandwala, individualized intervention plans are created to address each child’s specific needs. These may include physiotherapy, occupational therapy, posture and movement training, and parent-guided exercises aimed at improving strength, flexibility, and motor control.
With timely therapy and regular follow-up, children with tone abnormalities can achieve improved mobility, coordination, and independence. Our family-centered approach ensures parents receive clear guidance and ongoing support to help their child reach optimal functional development.
